Celebrating Hugh Harris: A Cornerstone of East County Rising

Celebrating Hugh Harris: A Cornerstone of East County Rising

We reach out to our wider community today to honor and express our gratitude to Hugh Harris, who is concluding his tenure as our Operations Manager. Hugh’s dedication and leadership have been instrumental in the seamless operation and growth of our organization. He has made an indelible mark on our collective efforts to champion change from 82nd Avenue to the furthest reaches of Eastern Multnomah County.

On behalf of our Boards, I want to appreciate Hugh’s leadership through our formative years. Our communities are better off thanks to his hard work.
– Huy Ong, ECR Community Projects Board Chair

Together with his partner, Eddy Morales, Hugh co-founded East County Rising, laying the groundwork for what has become a leading force in organizing and advocacy across East County. Under his guidance, our community organizing and policy work, particularly in Rockwood and the City of Gresham, have flourished, embodying our mission to uplift and empower our community.

Hugh’s optimism and “can-do” spirit have infused our team with positivity and resilience, driving us to achieve more than we thought possible. His contribution goes beyond daily operations; he has helped shape the soul of East County Rising, fostering a culture of determination and kindness that will endure in his absence.

Though we will miss his daily presence at our offices in Rockwood, Gresham on 181st Ave, we are comforted by the knowledge that Hugh’s legacy will continue through his volunteer work with our community enhancement grant program. His commitment to our cause remains unwavering, and we cannot wait to celebrate our collective achievements at our 6th anniversary party this summer, where Hugh and Eddy will be our honored guests.

We invite our community to join us in extending heartfelt thanks to Hugh for his tireless service and to share any messages of appreciation, which we will gladly pass along. Hugh’s impact in East County will be felt for years to come.

Thank you, Hugh, for your vision, your leadership, and your unwavering commitment to our community. Your legacy will continue to inspire us all.
